Concepts and strategies for local authorities and villages in Trincomalee district

IFSP initiatives in 2001/2002 included intensive preparations for a solid waste management (SWM) concept for a number of urban local authorities (ULA) and villages in the district of Trincomalee. In its facilitating role, IFSP teamed up with the UC, Trincomalee (UCT), Pradeshiya Sabhas of Town & Gravets, Kantale and Muthur as well as a number of village communities. The aim was to formulate strategies to improve SWM. The SWM concept focuses on (i) exploring the present way SWM is done and the shortcomings, (ii) formulation of balanced and sustainable SWM concepts and strategies, and (iii) formulation of preliminary proposals and implementation plans for priority projects.

Technical Paper 34 Solid Waste Management III - Padavisiripura

A solid waste management concept for Padavisiripura was developed with all stake holders. The aim was to sensitise market traders, Pradesha Saba, health officials and the general public for a clean (er) and (more) hygiene environment. The plan compliments the Solid Waste Management Concept for Trincomalee UC, Town & Gravets, Kantale and Muthur of 2002 (Working Paper 48)
